Ray Bolger not only had a brain, he had some pretty nifty dance
steps too in his unforgettable performance as the Scarecrow.
Ray Bolger got his start in Vaudeville. He was half of
a team called, "Sanford and Bolger" and also did numerous Broadway shows on
his own.
After his role as the Scarecrow, he left MGM only to return
in 1946 to reunite with Judy Garland in, "The Harvey Girls, (1946)." Bolger
went back to the Broadway stage after "The Harvey Girls" where he said he felt
the most at home. In 1953, he found himself on the small screen in his own sitcom
"The Ray Bolger Show". After his series ended, Bolger made the talk show rounds
on TV and had some minor movie roles. In 1985, he teamed up with Liza Minnelli
to host "That's Dancing (1985)". Bolger died in 1987 at the age of 83.
