He was the actor with a face only a mother could love, but
he ticked and guffawed his way into moviegoers' hearts as everybody's favorite
scaredy-cat, the Cowardly Lion.
Bert Lahr was born in New York City in 1895. After a run
in Vaudeville, he made the transition into Broadway in 1928 in a production
of "Hold Everything." His second most-famous role was that of Estragon in Waiting
for Godot from 1956. Lahr passed away in 1967.
