Billy Burke enchanted us with her turn as Glinda the Good Witch
of the North. She played the broker of Dorothy's dreams and her protector in the
land of Oz.
Burke's father was Billy Burke, the internationally famous
clown with whom she traveled in Europe before the family settled in London.
Later she moved to New York and to Broadway and married promoter Florenz Ziefeld
in April 1914.
Burke died of natural causes on May 14, 1970 at the age
of 84. The television generation will always remember Burke as Glinda, the Good
Witch.
