Margaret Hamilton: The Wicked Witch of the West
Until the day she died, Margaret Hamilton had children recognizing her and coming up to her to ask why she was so mean to Dorothy.

The irony is that in real life Hamilton loved children - in fact her first job was as a kindergarten teacher.

Hamilton was born on December 9,1902, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was married for seven years to Paul Meserve in the 30s and they had one child. She starred in several movies and T.V. shows after her stint as the witch, but like many of our great character actors, she was usually cast in a role similar to her most famous role, that of the Wicked Witch. Hamilton also was the spokesperson for Maxwell House coffee in several TV commercials in the 70s. She passed away on May 16, 1985 of a heart attack in her home in Canada.
