Sydney - FBI Agents, in collaboration
with the Australian Police Force, are pursuing a man suspected of
planting a biochemical device on a Boeing 747 enroute to Los Angeles.
The man apparently is not a political terrorist-early indications
suggest that the nerve gas was for revenge upon his ex-wife and her
husband, who happens to work for the airline.
Sources close to the investigation acknowledge that the man, at this time identified only as "Philip," followed his ex-wife to Sydney, Australia, and there witnessed her marriage to another man. Apparently acting out of jealousy, the man planted a biochemical device, along with a note, on their return flight (see related story here)
At the current time, reports indicate that the captain and his co-pilot, Kim McGee, are in close communication with bomb experts in Los Angeles. Daniel Gorlin, a widely renowned expert on explosives and biochemical terrorist devices, is believed to be talking Prescott and McGee through an attempt to disarm the device.
In a frightening twist, the device contains extremely dangerous nerve gas not the high explosives generally favored by terrorists. The gas is known to spread with terrifying speed, and can kill when inhaled or when in contact with the skin. The volatile nature of the biochemical device makes all attempts to disarm it extremely risky.
